Hey  everyone . Over time i’ve gotten a lot of questions about the basics of photoshop and even where to find it in general. So I decided to start a series of tutorials title “Photoshop 101″. In this series I will go over the very basics step by step to help you be on your way to becoming a photoshop expert. We will start with creating and saving files with a brief explanation of file types, color modes, and more.

In this tutorial I am going show how to produce this effect. It’s commonly used by people who design pictures on Myspace and over time I’ve gotten a lot of questions about how this is done. This effect is really simple yet effective and is a perfect place to start for beginners as you get to learn about layer properties and using the pen tool to make paths and selections.

Well, the entire time I was in school day I kept day dreaming about this idea I had. So as soon as I got home I loaded up photoshop and got started on it. And here’s what came out. I’m really proud of it, it has to be in my top 3 best/favorite graphics I ever created. Take a look.
